Blue Breath reflects the tensions between form and counter-form, colour and pictorial space, surface and contour that characterise Philippon‘s oeuvre. The abstract, two-dimensional composition thrives on contrasts that convey a sense of spatial depth. By translating his painterly language into the medium of rug, the work takes on a new tactile quality.
